Questions about
my practice?

Here are some of the most common (and important!) questions I get about working together.

If you don’t see your question listed here or are ready to schedule your free 20-minute phone consultation, contact me today.

  • My office for in-person sessions is located at 9482 Fairview Avenue, Boise, ID 83704. My office is inside Tranquility Counseling Service.

  • I always recommend meeting weekly, initially, and we’ll continue to assess your progress before changing up the frequency we meet.

I’m not afraid to challenge my clients in the spirit of real healing.

Our work will be collaborative as you are the expert of your life, so be prepared to take some action and I’ll lead you through it all.

I strive to provide a nice balance between structure in a session and flexibility, to ensure we stay on track.

Taking the time to build trust is essential, as I desire for you to reach new levels of vulnerability with me.

I’m not big on “homework” per se as I want what we accomplish in sessions to be sustained and carried out into your world on a daily basis.

  • Session fees are $155 per 50-minute session.

I accept credit/debit card payments (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover), or HSA cards. A credit/debit card is required to have on file and is provided by you on intake paperwork/forms prior to our first session. All payments are due at time of service. This is a self-pay private practice and I do not work with insurance companies. See the next question for more detailed information about this.

    Good Faith Estimate
All clients have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • Susan Martin Therapy and Wellness is a self-pay private practice and I am considered an out-of-network (OON) provider. I do not work with or collect payment from insurance companies.

In order to provide you with the best care possible and truly prioritize your needs while maintaining 100% confidentiality, you and I need to have complete control over your care, not an insurance company.

Insurance companies often only provide coverage for services that they consider “medically necessary” and this can be very limiting to your care. Using insurance requires that a mental health diagnosis be put on your permanent health record. Insurance companies can use this to increase your insurance premiums or possibly deny you coverage in the future. Additionally, without the control of an insurance company dictating how I offer my state-licensed clinical skills, I can explore innovative therapy approaches, highly tailor my services to your specific needs, and focus on your overall wellness, not just mental illness.

I am also happy to discuss this with you further if you like. It’s important to me that all your questions are answered and understood.

  • Cancellation or rescheduling of sessions must be made **at least 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE**. Late cancellations will be charged at the regular hourly fee of $155 to your credit card. This policy is strictly enforced and I thank you for your understanding.

You will receive a reminder text and/or email 48 hours prior to each session time.

  • Our first session together will start with ensuring all the necessary “housekeeping” items are taken care of, i.e. your new client paperwork is complete (can’t start without it…), informed consent forms are read and signed, practice policies are reviewed, payment set up, etc.

I have a 3-tiered on-boarding process for new clients. 1) we speak on the phone for your consultation; 2) you complete your new client forms as thoroughly as possible, which helps me chart our course for the first session, and; 3) we meet in person (or face to face virtually) so I can get even more details about you and your situation, as well as learn more about you as a person, your relationships and other areas you’d like to cover. At the end of our first time together, we will have some clear goals to work toward.

  • Trauma therapy is a unique and personal journey, and the duration of therapy can vary for every individual. Typically, the length of therapy is influenced by several factors - the nature and severity of your trauma, your individual goals, and your progress throughout the process. While some individuals may experience relief and significant progress in a relatively short period, others may find that more time is needed to address complex or deeply rooted trauma. It's important to view trauma therapy as a gradual and supportive process, allowing yourself space and grace to heal at your own pace. Consistent sessions and open communication with me about your goals and progress can help guide the therapeutic journey.
